How to get to Big Bear Lake

Road conditions affecting travel and closures of mountain area roads are more frequent than we like to admit. It’s a fact that all of the 3 highways that you can take to get to Big Bear are just 2 lanes with either forest or steep terrain on each side, so if something happens, there just isn’t room to get around the obstruction. So make sure to check out the current road conditions before you travel!

Highway 330  is  Re-Opened!  The most traveled road  to and from Big Bear is the 330. Accessed from the 210 in San Bernardino / Highland, it is the shortest way to get from the IE to Big Bear Lake. During record rainfall in December 2010, a huge section of the two-lane 330 was washed out a few miles above Highland. The damage was estimated to take as long as 1 year to complete at a cost upwards of 20 milling dollars. The Road was reopened on June 17, 2011 .

East is Least! Getting to Big Bear Lake  offers plenty of options. All 3 have unique landscape and views. From the IE the 330 through Running Springs is the traditional route but certainly not the most comfortable. You can get to Big Bear Lake in about an hour from almost anywhere in the IE. From LA, just stay on the 210 until it meets the 10 or from San Diego, the 215 until it meets the 10. On the 10 head East to Redlands then take either Orange or University North to Lugonia. Lugonia is Hwy 38 so head East on the 38 all the way to  Big Bear Lake. It’s a much better road than the 330 and really only adds a few minutes to your trip. On the weekends it can be pretty busy and you have to go through Big Bear City to get to the Resorts and the Village so plan a little extra time if you’re traveling on the weekend.

From Palm Springs, or the Santa Clarita area, you may want to consider taking the 18 from the Lucerne Valley or the 247 from Morongo/Palm Desert to the 18 via Camp Rock Road.

So check your map, travel safely, and we will see you in the Village!

Boulder Bay Park-Lakeside in Big Bear Lake, boasts lots of amenities

New Boulder Bay Park Hours Just over ten years it took, from conception and a generous private donation of land and money, to complete Boulder Bay Park in the City of Big Bear Lake, CA.

Recently re-opened in 2010, the public park boasts a limited amount of free parking, restrooms, a covered pavilion, seating and picnic benches, landscaping, fencing and a fishing dock.

Early plans for a walk in ramp for launching kayaks was abandoned on complaints from local marinas and lake management  that this new permanent launch ramp would somehow pose a quagga mussel threat that doesn’t already exist along the 17 miles of unrestricted shoreline.

View from the huge pavilion looking west, Boulder Bay, Big Bear Lake, CA

The park is located on the south shore of Big Bear Lake, adjacent to Boulder Bay Market, about 1 mile west of the Village, Big Bear Lake’s destination for shopping, dining and entertainment. Walk from free parking to Boulder Bay Market.

Boulder Bay Park is publicly owned, operated and maintained by the City of Big Bear Lake and welcomes your suggestions and comments on the facilities, use and maintenance of the park.

You can reach the Public Works Department at 909-866-7521 or online at   bblpw@citybigbearlake.com
